Mitsubishi B1M2b
Pilots and ground crew members start this originally designed by Herbert SmithMitsubishi B1M2b belonging to the Kasumigaura Kokutai. Photo from a vintage magazine.
George, I am neither a pilot nor a mechanic; but I know they are "pulling through" the prop. This was done more with radials, to be sure that there was no fluid in the (inverted) cylinder heads on the bottom of the engine, before starting. With men set to pull both ways, are they really starting the engine in this case? Hopefully someone who actually knows what he is talking about :-) will comment too.
