After losing their aircraft carrier divisions IJN needed a way to strike the carriers of the Allies far into the sea, so Mitsubishi mated two A6M5c frames creating a machine designated A6M9-Z able to cross the seas with a payload that could sink a carrier.
It was also capable of landing and getting launched from small carriers and dogfight every fighter available in 1946 at sea.

The model is in 1/72 scale, the kits from academy.

This is what I call plastic surgery! Very good joining of the wings and tail. I think it would be more realistic if the one of the cockpits was faired over and that space used for extra fuel to extend range. Is that a rearward facing gun in the second cockpit?
ReplyDelete4.5 for me.

Nice concept! From an engineering point of view, the center wing would be a straight section. However that would involve a lot more "surgery"! :)
ReplyDeleteWell done! 4.2
Hi,
ReplyDeleteWind swords,
Yes it's a reaward facing 12.7mm
it was build that way so it could carry a torpedo but the carpet monster and my foot send it to the after life!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I know all about the carpet monster! (And the crunch of plastic...)
ReplyDeleteYes, I could see the inner wing section used that way. I understand now!
Sorry for the late comment. Yes, I agree with both Windswords and D. But the concept is cool and the overall effort is commentable. 4.2 from me too.
