Kawanishi E7K1 "Alf"

A dramatic photo, from a vintage October 1939 magazine, of a Kawanishi E7K1 hoisted on the water. Note the 2-tone camouflage on the upper surfaces.
Any ideas about the ship?


gmmk11 suggested that the ship could be the Heavy Cruiser Chokai or Maya of the Takao Class and provided a link to an interesting message board. 
So here's a photo of Chokai from a vintage publication around 1934.

    Ah, very nice!

    Another favorite of nine.
    I think the guy in the bucket, for lack of a better term, is interesting. It also looks like one of the aircraft crew members is attending to the attachment points on the aircraft.
    I have no ideas about the ship, however.
    I would love to see a large scale kit of this aircraft, but I don't see it coming any time soon....

    I think that ship may be 'maya' or 'chokai'

    Great picture with a lot of action! Concerning the ship, the crane is typical of the IJN cruisers, and I will bet on a Sendai class one after the acquisition of the Kure Type 2 Model 3 catapult, in 1941.
