Mitsubishi A6M2-K in 1/144

It's always nice to see models inspired by the work we have presented in our publications. Just this morning I stumbled upon a lovely Mitsubishi A6M2-K Trainer "Rensen" in 1/144 that a modeller was selling on the Japanese Ebay.

The modeller also included a scan of the artwork and caption he based his model on. No credit is given (as expected) but I couldn't fail to notice it was from issue #6 of our magazine released back in 2007, almost 10 years ago. The fantastic profile was done by Mark Rolfe

Kawasaki Ki-48 "Lily" - 8th Sentai - video

Another part of the video posted on February 1st, features Kawasaki Ki-48 "Lily" belonging to the 8th Sentai during a bombing operation. On November 29, 1943 nine aircraft of the 8th Sentai together with 28 fighter aircraft gathered over Meiktila in Burma and bombed enemy forces gathered in "Akora" airfield (the Japanese name. Could not pinpoint the allied name of this airfield. Maybe Chittagong). The escort fighters were engaged in air battles with Hurricanes shooting down three enemy aircraft. On the way back to the base the bombers of the 8th were jumped by enemy fighters losing one aircraft.

HERE is a link to the video. Click and let me know if you can see it.

There are a number of very interesting aircraft on the video starting with a Kawasaki Ki-45 "Toryu".

There are three Ki-48s taking off in succession displaying very interesting camouflage and tail markings.

North Front 1943 - video

First part of an NHK clip dated December 7, 1943. This ones features IJNAF units stationed probably on Sakhalin or Paramushir island.
The narrator says:
"After our units perished in a honorable way on the island of Attu and the enemy has moved on to Kiska, we are waiting the enemy bombers to arrive over the Japanese mainland. Our front bases are hit by bad weather, snow and rough seas. Our Sea Eagles protect the front even if there are so strong and cold wings the engines freeze. The crew members play with their pets, a dog and a captured wild fox, on the frozen airfield. Although the battles in the Southern areas go favorably, our soldiers of the north are waiting daily for the enemy to arrive, taking off on patrols."

Although the unit tail markings are not visible check our other posting here. Personally I've never seen even one diorama featuring Zeros or Bettys in snow which is a pitty as it would be quite unusual and interesting.
