Japanese Aircraft Online Model Contest 004 - CAMERON LOHMANN

Both of these kits are 1/48. The blue tail is from Fine Molds. I love Fine Molds kits. The lightning tail is from Hasegawa. I'm not sure if they are historically accurate but sure are nice to look at.  Colorful!

Very good! but with George's reminder about the IFF stripe I say: 4.9
( or is the wide-angle fooling me?)

I'd like to ask what color codes you used for the camo..It looks pretty dark to me..Also the engine cowling is a little glossy too, as I can see. Overall it looks cool! 3.8 from me..

First model 4.5. Second one 4.7. Subtle weathering on the second very effective. Points for painted tail insignia rather than decals.

Thanks for the love!

I think I did these two without consulting George's painting info. I know I know :S The blue tail was done from an artist rendering or something I found online. That's why I warned about these maybe not being historic. Doing research is fun but often I just see something and think "Ooooh I want to model that! I bet I can mask it!" This has led me astray before though. Working from aftermarket painting guides or after market decal sheets for instance.

I think the dark green was Tamiya XF13 on the second one but I'm not sure. I also mix up paints to get them to match whatever I'm modeling from. The final coat is semi-gloss I think. But I might have been duplicating a show-room shine that I saw too.

Thank you!

No worries from me, Fluffy! All of us have been caught out on some detail at one time or another. Also, I know it's sometimes fun to duplicate a color scheme that you know is inaccurate, but looks interesting.
From my experience, any sort of gloss, or semi-gloss clear coat can darken colors, so can light balance in photos.

All the best!

I like them both! 4.5 for each.

Brilliant builds these two! In my opinion, a slight dull coat using Tamiya smoke would help bring down the gloss for the second air frame.
And understandable your take on this. There's always two sides to this hobby, historical accuracy and artistry and there will always be a mixture of audiences with different preferences. For me, I'm somewhere in the middle, more towards artistry though.
However, I think what's most important is that we enjoy the hobby and that we build what we like to satisfy ourselves. What's the point of this hobby if we can't completely enjoy it at the end of the day?
4.6 and 4.6 for me.

Both builds have eye catching schemes. Artistic license is important in model building and I applaud your efforts for applying this. Toning down the gloss may help the overall appearance. 4.5 for both.
