Pacific War Trip by Jean Barby

Here are some pictures I took back in 1979, when I went for my Pacific War trip to Guadalcanal, Bougainville, Buka and Rabaul, from new-Caledonia where I was then living. I took all those pics around Lakunai, Vanukanau and Rapopo. Yes it is me with the long hair and the moustache, I was 27 then, those were the days!

Great pictures, Jean! I guess the precious relics have now been removed and lost for posterity.
I plan a Japan-New Caledonia-Salomons trip for next year (mainly to get rid of my airline miles, haha). I will look a little different from you then, with what is left of my thin grey hair...

Merci beaucoup Jean for the brilliant photos. Why the tennis look?

Enjoy your trip Michael. I'm very jealous of the South Pacific part.

Georges we were living in shorts and T-shirts, looking for the local beauties, and diving at night in Simpson harbor, along the twins where a lot of Japanese barges lay. Simpson Harbor is very deep, after all it is a volcano and the closest wreck bridge was 120 feet from the surface. No decompression chamber in Rabaul so no deep dives! I have some other pics but they are slides!
