Kawasaki Ki-61 Tei 19th Sentaï by Jean Barby

I have finished the excellent tamiya model, what a breeze, and I went for the 19th Sentaï who was whipped in the Philippines in 44. I have used B@W pics to inspire my paint job using the hairspray technic. All markings are painted with masks so no decals here. The Sentaï markings is irregular as the pics show them different from aircraft to aircraft and most of the time painted by hand.

Opposites attract - a different interpretation! by Michael Thurow

The past contest, for which unfortunately I had no model to take part in, inspired me to look at the topic from a different angle. 'Opposites Attract' (or ‘Opposites Attack’) in my creative interpretation are two opposing fighters that may have encountered each other in the air at the same place and at the same time. For the community's entertainment I therefore present these two 1/48 models out of competition.
The Nichimo Ki-43-I was entered here already in contest 004 in April 2017.  It was the personal "Hayabusa" of Captain Anma Katsumi, 3rd Chutai Leader of the 64th Hiko Sentai.
The Curtiss Hawk 81-A3 (P-40C) is the vintage Monogram kit which I built in 1992.  It’s pilot was Flight Leader Charles H. Older of the AVG's 3rd Squadron ('Hells Angels').
Both combatants may have fought it out over Rangoon on December 23-28, 1941. Captain Anma finally fell victim to Hawks of the ‘Hells Angels’ on April 8, 1942. A fascinating aspect is the totally different approach in fighter technology between Nakajima and Curtiss. Nevertheless, taking their relative strengths and weaknesses into account, the pair met on equal terms.
I hope you enjoy my unusual contribution.

Nakajima G10N-L "Fugaku" transport - RajiCon

On the same event the "Hayate" of the previous posting made her most enjoyable flight, an amazing Nakajima G10N-L "Fugaku" transport also took the skies. With six engines and contra-rotating props it was built and flown by the "Fugaku Wo Tobasho-kai" (Let's fly the "Fugaku" group).
First video from HERE, second from HERE.
Enjoy!

Japanese Aircraft Online Model Contest 007 - DEREK COOPER #4

Here is my final entry for the current online model contest.
This is a Ki-61 "Hien" which was taken over by the Chinese Nationalists at the end of the war, and flown by the 6th Fighter-Bomber Group at Nanyuan Airfield, near present-day Beijing in their battle against Mao Tse Tung's Communist forces.
I had already painted this model when I acquired a copy of Kecay's wonderful book "Japanese Planes in Foreign Service", which contains a profile depicting the aircraft with plain (i.e. uncamouflaged) wings.
Doh! On reflection, however, I believe I can make out a fairly strong case for the wings being camouflaged after all. So far as I am aware, there are only two photographs in existence of this aircraft, and in neither are the wing upper surfaces visible. In one of these photographs a small part of the starboard wing root can just be seen, and it does indeed give the impression of being plain. However, this may simply be due to any camouflage pattern being masked by specular reflection. In any event, common sense says that the Japanese (from whom the camouflage was presumably inherited) having taken the trouble of camouflaging to the fuselage would not have left the wings uncamouflaged, since this would have made the aircraft highly visible from above. There rests the case for the defence!!
Dragon 1/72 scale kit, decals included in kit.

Japanese Aircraft Online Model Contest 007 - MARK JAHSAN #4

The "Raiden" is the Otaki kit, with Flying Papa decals graciously given by George from a previous contest, Tamiya paints.
The Zero is Hasegawa’s, with kit decals and again, Tamiya paints.
The FP decals had a Type B roundel on the wing, while Hasegawa used the Type A. I don’t know which is correct, or if they both are.
Interestingly, the Zero cockpit is still extant in the Imperial War Museum I believe.

Japanese Aircraft Online Model Contest 007 - MARK JAHSAN #3

Both of these builds are twenty years old, done long before the current color research. Koga’s Zero is the Tamiya one, done with Tamiya IJN grey, decals from spares.
The captured one is Fujimi’s, MM paints, tail lettering done with tiny individual letters!
The Zero has always been one of my favorite planes (first airplane I ever built was the Revell 1/32 version), and I think it looks just as good in the Navy blue/grey scheme.
