A photo of a Navy Type 95 Reconnaissance Seaplane or Nakajima E8N "Dave" hoisted back on board, from a December 1942 vintage magazine. The battleship in the background is either Fuso or Yamashiro (I'm going for Yamashiro).

Modelling videos pt. 1
Will try to post a number of interesting modelling videos I recently discovered on UTube. Even if you can't see the video on this blog there will be a link where you can go and enjoy it in better quality too. I'd very much like to hear your comments regarding the techniques used, the paints etc.
So first up is a video from "rebelsatcloudnine" building a beautiful Tamiya 1:48 G4M1 Rikko (Betty). Here's the link to the video:

Central Pennsylvania IPMS Show
Central Pennsylvania IPMS held its annual model show and contest on September 16th. This event was held at the U.S. Army Heritage Center in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. The U.S. Army Heritage Center is a great venue for this event and Central Pennsylvania IPMS did a great job hosting. Unfortunately, there were only 2 Japanese aircraft models on display. Both are 1/72 Hasegawa kits. I'm sure the Tony will spark a few conversations and the Shin Meiwa PS-1 deserves accolades as she very well done and highly attractive.
Thank you to Charlie Swank for taking the photos.

Japanese Aircraft Online Model Contest 005 - ERIC VOGEL
I finally managed to finish my Rufe.
Last year I showed some work in progress pictures, HERE.
Last year I showed some work in progress pictures, HERE.
It was a slow progress because of too many modelling projects on the workbench.
The figure is from the Rabaul set of Modelkasten, these figures are nicely detailed.
The "sea" is made of epoxy components and the waves added on top are made of modeling gel.
Despite it took a little time I enjoyed it very much working on this Rufe.

Nakajima Ki-44 "Shoki" by Jean Barby
The Hasegawa "Shoki" was built using the super SBS interior and was painted to represent Major Saito plane as the two pics in Nick Millman's Osprey book show it. Saito was commanding the 85th Sentai. The camo was Green-grey with green and brown blotches and a heavy chipping both on wings and fuselage. Using figurines I tried to give some animation to my pics, sorry for the lst one where I did not spot the sliding hood!

Artist - Murakami Matsujiro
An artistic print entitled "Take off in high spirits" found in the November 1944 issue of the vintage magazine "Koku Shonen". Created by artist Murakami Matsujiro it features a Kawanishi H8K "Emily" flying boat or as is more commonly known in Japan, "Nishiki Taitei" .
For more on the artist check the older post, here.

Japanese Aircraft Online Model Contest 005 - CAMERON LOHMANN
Here is a 1/48 Hasegawa A6M2-N Rufe. I tried a lot of different shading and weathering on this one. The stripes on the propeller are decals otherwise it's all painted. I'm one of those strange builders that just can't get enough of the Zero and this was a fun version to try.

Just a reminder that the deadline for this contest is on September 15 and that the theme for the next online model contest is "Japanese Prototype & Experimental Aircraft" (no what-ifs) and will start from October 1.
I hope you all had a nice time during your summer vacation, amidst terrorist attacks (No Tenim Por!), hurricanes and floods (we hope all our friends in Texas are alright with dry homes and models!), fires (in Greece) and missiles flying over our heads (here in Japan).
