Japanese Aircraft Online Model Contest 010 - JEAN BARBY #1

My first post for the last Navy fighter will be the Kawanishi N1K1. The Hasegawa kit is a very good base to start with. The cockpit can be improved, I did, but now Aires has a very nice set for that. Riveting the plane was also an improvement of the overall appearance, but the part where you really need to work is the undercarriage legs with all the complicated hydraulic lines to duplicate. Solder wire is very helpful there. I did my own mixture for the Kawanishi green giving it a more blue shade. The plane belongs to the 341 Kokutai which was wiped out during the Philippines campaign.

Nice work, Jean. I think all Shiden kits have a problem regarding detail and accuracy. The complexity of the plane seems difficult to reproduce. Sorry for not voting but I will have an entry for the contest, too.
It may be disputable if there was a variation in green called 'Kawanishi Green'. I'm quite convinced of Nick Millman's research and his excellent paper about IJN greens.

Very well build model with a nice finish to Jean's usual excellent standard. I just have a small 'but' because for my eyes the green doesn't appear saturated (dark) enough and the exhaust stains are too pronounced. I'd give it an 8.5 (= not quite a 9)
